HTML - Smooth scrolling to bottom of page - workaround needed

i've implemented a one page website with anchors to jump to different
sections. I have used a smooth scrolling jquery script to smoothly scroll
between the sections.

The problem arises when the 'Contact' button is clicked. There is not
enough space below the footer DIV to allow the screen to scroll to the top
and sit flush with that section.
Is there a workaround other than placing a blank white DIV underneath the
footer div to give the page enough height to scroll to the top?
Only a problem for non-widescreen monitors and phones..
